Callander resident killed in motorcycle collision with moose

Police say a 54-year-old from Callander has died following a motorcycle collision involving a moose on Highway 11 at Nipissing Junction Thursday night.

Members of the North Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the motor-vehicle collision at approximately 9:30 p.m., just south of the Lakeshore Drive exit.

Police say the investigation revealed that a southbound motorcycle collided with a moose on the highway.

The driver, Darren Renaud, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly afterward.

An OPP technical traffic collision investigator attended the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The highway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

North Bay Emergency Medical Services and North Bay Fire and Emergency Services also assisted at the scene.
