It didn’t take long to get over the 200 milestone when twenty-four new COVID-19 cases among residents in the health unit area are reported in one day.
The Porcupine Health Unit region has had 218 confirmed cases of COVID since March.
This last influx has nineteen cases are being reported in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, Fauquier-Strickland. These cases are related to an institutional outbreak and the individuals are in self-isolation.
Two cases are being reported in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls, Smooth Rock Falls. The individuals are contacts of a case and in self-isolation.
Finally, three cases are being reported in the area of Hearst, Hornepayne where the individuals are in self-isolation and the exposure is under investigation.
Public health will notify all close contacts directly. If you are not contacted by public health, you are not considered a close contact. Regardless of an announcement of a case, everyone is reminded to stay home if they have symptoms and get tested.
The PHU is also announcing a death in relationship to an institutional outbreak at Extendicare in Kapuskasing. Out of respect for the family, no further information will be shared.
