Two new cases of coronavirus in Elliot Lake region

Elliot Lake and area has two new cases of COVID-19.

Algoma Public Health (APH) made the announcement on June 9.

Through contact tracing, APH notifies all close contacts directly. If you are not contacted by the health unit you are not considered a close contact.

Case 395 is unknown exposure while case 396 is due to close contact. Both individuals are self-isolating.

As of June 9, there were six active cases in Algoma plus one individual who is temporarily in the region. There are two people in the hospital as a result of the virus, as well as an additional two hospitalizations of individuals temporarily in, but not from the Algoma district.

A total 390 out of 396 cases have been resolved and that number includes six deaths. One hundred and six cases have screened positive for a variant of concern (VOC).

A total of 31 cases have come from Elliot Lake and area while 51 cases have been in Central and East Algoma.
