The Soo Thunderbirds defeated the Blind River Beavers by a score of 7-4 on Saturday. A quick start saw Sault Ste. Marie score three times before the game was 15 minutes and they never trailed en route to the road triumph.
Avery Rebek and Cooper Smyl both struck twice for the Soo with Russell Oldham, Connor Toms and Caleb Wood, with an empty netter, contributing solo efforts for the T-Birds.
Rebek and Smyl were both credited with two assists each as was Michael Chaffay.
Getting the Blind River goals were Meguire Naughton, Noah Minns, Lucas Adams and Mason Chitaroni.
The Beavers had plenty of chances on a night that saw Soo goalkeeper Alex Bugeja finish with 49 saves to earn the victory.
Blind River’s Gavin Disano meanwhile faced 45 shots in defeat.
On Friday, the T-Birds defeated the Beavers 6-1. Will Josephson notched a hat trick and had an assist to pace the hometown T-Birds to the triumph over the visiting Beavers as John Rhodes Community Centre.
After a scoreless, yet fast-paced opening frame, Josephson put Sault Ste. Marie on the board just past the four-minute mark of the middle stanza.
Blind River got the equalizer at 14:44 of the frame from Devin Mauro, only to see the T-Birds tally twice before the session was out on markers from Kurtis Rogers and Caleb Wood.
The Soo then broke it open in the late going of the contest as Josephson tacked on two more markers before Michael Chaffay rounded out the night’s scoring.
Shots on goal favoured the Thunderbirds by a 55-22 count with Scott Young getting the win while Wyatt Courchaine suffered the defeat.
